ANTI-AIRCRAFT REFUGE

It was built in 1938 to defend the people from the bombs during the Civil War. 38 refuges were built in different places of Jaén.

The bombing was made by six tri-planes accompanied by an escort group composed of nine fighters who entered the south side of the city making the attack in a single pass.

With seating for over 1,000 people, the refuge was built under the crypt of the Church of Santiago that didn't exist, It was a square.

MUDEJAR ROOM

The building occupies part of what was the great palace of the famous Constable of Castile Don Miguel Lucas de Iranzo. It was built in the 15th century. The interior room is the only room that preserves the ancient Moorish palace from the 15th century. Its interior is covered by a magnificent Mudejar paneled ceiling, the only example of this art throughout the city. Today, the building belongs to the Board of Tourism, Culture and Heritage Hall of Jaén.

This room has been given different applications throughout the history: In times of Constable was used as reception hall of the palace and as a venue for meetings, banquets and balls. Later in the 19th century with the acquisition of this by the Spanish Casino, it became a large lounge with dance hall and library. In the 20th century, the Casino leases it to the Peña Flamenca placing their headquarters there. In 1984 the Casino donated the building to the city of Jaén in exchange for its restoration and used it of their classrooms. Since then, it is a space used as a hall by the Tourism and Culture of the City of Jaen.
