URBAN PLANNING OF JAÉN

In the nineteenth century, poor harvests and social tensions continue with this slow growth. However, the historical events in this century as the desamortización of Mendizabal and the French occupation would leave a significant mark. In addition, the beginning of the destruction of the wall to build a modern city stood out.

The period of greatest urban rise was produced from 1950, when it broke definitively the defensive belt of the city and gave it the ability to conquer the plain to the north and definitely got away from the hillside of the hill of Santa Catalina. The opening of Paseo de la Estación, the expansion district of Arquitecto Berges (rational model of urban planning aimed at transit between the old and the new city), the suburbs of Santa Isabel, San Felipe or the Glorieta, -were the places where the rationalist architecture and auto-construction mix together- and the recent urbanization of Boulevard differentiate from the medieval town, which was located next to the hill and was provided by the contribution of water. The contemporary city tripled the extension by different cases of urban ordering in just a half of 20th the century.
