PREHISTORY

In Jaén, the prehistorical site is located in the area of Marroquíes, from the Neolithic period. It was a walled site, which was occupied until the 11th and 12th centuries.

The most important remains are from the Copper Period, which was very important in our city because it supposes the consolidation of the agriculture in Jaén.

In 2010, some remains from 4500 years ago were discovered. The site is formed by a wall situated in five concentric circles, some necropolis and rest of bones and figures. It is called the ‘Venice of the the Prehistory’, because it was formed by plenty of canals and hydraulic systems. It is considered the biggest prehistorical discovery of all Europe.
